backcountry plan

After decades of hard work and dedication, we celebrate the @nationalparkservice announcement of the Final Backcountry Access Plan, which adopts Preferred Alternative 4 — matching Alternative 3 but without any wilderness designations. This landmark decision lifts the access restrictions that have, since 2012, kept an entire generation of Floridians and Americans from experiencing the unique beauty and heritage of Big Cypress.

Huge thanks to Gladesmen, @miccosukeetribeofindians, @seminole.tribe.of.florida, @myfwc, @fl.dep, @sfwmd_gov, @sci_south_florida_chapter, @congressionalsportsmen, @bergeronevergladesfoundation, @alligatorronbergeron, and the many others whose relentless commitment has kept this incredible landscape accessible for all. This victory highlights the strength of perseverance and our shared vision for conserving Florida’s outdoor heritage.

And this isn’t the end of the fight against restrictive wilderness designations—it’s a call to keep pushing forward! Support HR 8206/S 4267 to ensure future administrations can’t pursue wilderness designations here.

Here’s to generations of Americans enjoying Big Cypress as it was meant to be — wild, free, and accessible to all.
