Cypress Chapter IWLA Florida Scholarships

Bob Soter, Cypress Chapter Board of Directors, with staff support from Nora Demers, coordinate the Izaak Walton Florida Endowment education programs for the Chapter.

Application Process

If interested in seeking a Chapter scholarship, or a work force training award, complete the application form and packet used by the Collaboratory of SWF https://collaboratory.org/more/our-scholarships-program/. It is available for the next cycle, for a 2025 award,, on December 1, 2024.  For assistance, contact Crystal Maldonado via phone:  239-308-1214 or email: CMaldonado@collaboratory.org.  Check the Chapter website (CypressIWLA.org) and follow the Chapter on Facebook for latest information on the program.

For consideration of a 2025 Chapter award, applicants must send a copy of the Collaboratory’s application with a letter outlining their education and career plans to the Chapter Education Program coordinator Bob Soter (bobwsoter@gmail.com) or mail a copy to our Babcock Ranch office, Canopy #2312, 17174 Curry Preserve Drive, Babcock Ranch, FL 33923, before March 31st, 2025 .

Support the Scholarship Funds

Folks can help build the Cypress Chapter endowment by donating online via our secure website portal, sending a check,  and/or making a bequest to the Cypress Chapter IWLA Endowment. Donations of $10,000 or more will fund a scholarship named by the donor, if desired. Donations to the Endowment, a 501(c) 3 corporation, may be eligible for significant tax savings.

George Quasius SR Work Force Award

$1000 award for training of outstanding high school grads seeking careers in skilled construction.  There is a shortage of skilled tradesmen for Greater Everglades restoration projects.  Applicants for a work force training award do not need to be 2024 highschool graduates.

Outstanding applicants will be offered a one year “student”  2024 membership in IWLA .  We will share outstanding applications with other NGOs that have scholarship programs, in an attempt to “bundle” grants for greater impact and perhaps sustained support.

IWLA Endowment Fund

The IWLA Endowment Fund offers $2500 scholarships for junior and senior undergrads who are IWLA members, working on a degree in environment related studies.
