Cypress Chapter IWLA Florida Scholarships
Bob Soter, member of Cypress Chapter Board of Directors, Judy Cadman cadmanjudy9@gmail.com and Dr. Nora Egan Demers, a biology professor at FGCU, coordinate the Izaak Walton Florida Endowment education programs for the Chapter. The Chapter offers $1000 scholarships for high school students graduating from SWF public schools seeking careers in environmental related professions including teaching, or trades with the George Quasius SR Work Force Award. The $1000 work force award will focus on advanced training of outstanding high school grads in skills needed, but in short supply, for Greater Everglades restoration projects including underwater welding, pipe fitting, electric installations, diesel motor mechanics, and surveying.
Outstanding applicants will be awarded a one year "student" membership in IWLA which makes them Cypress Chapter and IWLA members who have a voice/vote at Board meetings and are eligible to participate in all Chapter activities. We will share outstanding applications with other NGOs that have scholarship programs to "bundle" grants for greater impact and perhaps sustained support.
The IWLA Endowment Fund offers $2500 scholarships for junior and senior undergrads who are IWLA members working on a degree in environment related studies.

Send a copy of the application submitted to the Collaboratory with a letter outlining your education and career plans to the Chapter scholarship chair, Judy Cadman at cadmanjudy9@gmail.com or mail a copy to our Babcock Ranch office, Canopy #2312, 17174 Curry Preserve Drive, Babcock Ranch, FL 33923.
Folks can help build the Cypress Chapter endowment by sending a check or making a bequest to the Cypress Chapter IWLA Endowment. Donations of $10,000 or more will fund a scholarship named by the donor, if desired. Donations to the Endowment, a 501(c) 3 corporation, may be eligible for significant tax savings
Little Free Library Program
The Chapter is a registered participant in the Little Free Library program. The location of Little Free Library kiosks is available here (https://littlefreelibrary.org/map/.) The Chapter project coordinator and steward is Tarah Ferrier <tferrier13@yahoo.com>.
If you have books, DVDs or CDs which support the IWLA mission you would like to donate, or if your community would like to have a Little Free Library kiosk installed or books provided just for an event or meeting w/ optional book exchange, please contact Tarah.
